Question about HiyaCFW: Does my DSi need the sd card for it to boot?

I am debating if I should install a HiyaCFW on my DSi. The main reason is because I have a flashcart that only works on a DS but I would like to use in on my DSi. I tried using TWiLight Menu++ as an alternative but I found it to be too glitchy for my liking. I figured out that if I HiyaCFW, it would allow my flashcard to work but the I only have ONE SD card. So it can't be used for the flashcard and DSi at the same time.

So if I install HiyaCFW, does my DSi need the sd card for it to boot?...
